Indian physicians are the experts who take care to keep the health of their countrymen fit and sound. The doctors of India have toiled hard to keep India a medically sound nation. Several researches and discoveries have lead to healthy and illness free society.

With the development of medical institutions, the acute shortage of manpower in the healthcare sector was solved. India now holds the prestigious position when it comes to Indian physicians migrating to developed countries like Britain and the US.

Besides, serving the national heath sectors, almost 60,000 Indian physicians are estimated to be working in countries like US, UK, Canada and Australia alone. Indian physicians are experts in various fields like cardiac, nervous, gynecology, pediatrics, ENT, surgery, dental, chronic, psychology, physiology and so on.

The Indian physicians work in both private sector companies and also at government institutions. Many Indian physicians also teach and train medical students and are free to establish medical, dental colleges and nursing colleges.

Health care facilities by Indian physicians and personnel increased substantially between the early 1950s and early 1980s, but because of rapid population growth, the number of licensed Indian physicians per 10,000 individuals had fallen by the late 1980s to three per 10,000 from the 1981 level of four per 10,000.

Primary health centers are the cornerstone of the rural health care system. By 1991, India had about 22,400 primary health centers, 11,200 hospitals, and 27,400 dispensaries; all served by competent Indian physicians.

These amenities are part of a tiered health care system that funnels more difficult cases into urban hospitals. Primary health centers and sub-centers rely on trained Indian physicians to meet most of their needs.

Various studies have shown that in both urban and rural areas people preferred to pay and seek the more sophisticated services by the private Indian physicians provided by rather than use free treatment at public health centers.
