Senior Fellowships for Researchers in India

For applying this scholarship candidates must experience in Research or Postdoctoral

This scheme supports outstanding researchers of any nationality, either medically qualified or science graduates, who wish to pursue a research career in an academic institution in India.

Applicants must have demonstrated their ability to lead an independent research project and group.

What’s included :

The senior fellowship is for five years, and provides :

  • Personal support for the fellow. For details see costing policies.
  • Essential costs of the research programme, including consumables, equipment, collaborative travel, research assistance and technical support if appropriate
  • Overheads, a flexible funding allowance and support to attend scientific meetings, in addition to requested essential costs.

All budgetary requests must be fully justified.

Senior Fellowship Eligibility :

Applicants should normally have between seven to twelve years’ research experience at a postdoctoral level or clinical equivalent and have a substantial record of publications in your chosen area of research in leading international journals.

It is not essential for medical or veterinary degree holders to have a PhD.

Due allowance will be given to an applicant whose career has been affected for personal reasons.

Intermediate Fellowships for Researchers in India

Fellowship for those students who have four to seven years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience

This scheme supports excellent scientists who wish to undertake high-quality research and to establish themselves as independent researchers in an academic institution in India.

What’s included :

The intermediate fellowship is for five years and provides :

  • The Fellow’s personal support (for details see costing policies)
  • Research expenses, including research assistance if required (normally funding for two research staff may be requested; requests for additional research staff may be considered where fieldwork or clinical studies are proposed)
  • Additional allowances for scientifically justified visits of up to one year.

Time permitted for non-research related activity during the fellowship is normally restricted to a maximum of eight hours each week.

Intermediate Fellowship Eligibility :

You should normally have between four to seven years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience. It is not essential for medical or veterinary degree holders to have a PhD.

You do not have to be an Indian national or be resident in India at the time of application. However, it is expected that your research will be based at an Indian host institution and that your long-term aim is to pursue a career in India.

If you had applied previously and were not short-listed to submit a full application, you are not restricted from re-applying, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria for the scheme.

Please note that resubmission following consideration of a full application is only permitted on the recommendation of the Selection Committee. Resubmissions are considered only in exceptional cases and are rare.

You may apply even if you already hold another Fellowship. However, please note that if awarded, you will be required to make a choice between your current Fellowship and the India Alliance Fellowship.

The India Alliance does not permit Fellows to overlap their India Alliance Fellowship with any other national or international Fellowship.

You may not apply for more than one programme fellowship scheme at any one time.

You must have made intellectual contributions to research that have been published in leading journals, and be able to demonstrate your potential to carry out independent research.
